Camping near Rocamadour, a tourist mecca
Not far from our campsite in Corrèze is Rocamadour.
“Houses on the stream, churches on the houses, rocks on the churches, castle on the rocks”.
This saying alone sums up the challenge that had to be overcome to complete this incredible site. You can’t help but admire this tourist mecca.
Discover Rocamadour by day
During the day, choose your moment, either early in the morning or late in the afternoon when it’s less crowded:
During the day, you can visit the various sanctuaries and, above all, the Basilica of San Salvatore. It’s the largest and best-known because it’s in its crypt that the body of Saint Amadour is said to have been found, a hermit who found refuge here in the IVᵉ century (Unesco World Heritage sites).
Don’t forget to enter the Notre-Dame chapel, home to the famous black Madonna.
Rocamadour by night: a unique and atypical visit
In the evening, after dark, we invite you to stroll through the unique narrow alley, make your footsteps echo on the cobblestones and finally climb the 216 steps of the grand staircase that thousands of pilgrims, since the XIIᵉ century, have climbed (some on their knees). Whatever our beliefs, this place leaves no one indifferent.
