Campsite near Autoire, one of France’s most beautiful villages
A visit to Autoire, the little Versailles
A remarkable example of Quercy architecture. It was nicknamed “Le petit Versailles” by the notables of Saint-Céré, who made it their holiday resort. The little village of Autoire is a must-see during your vacation at camping L’Écho du Malpas near Argentat.
Everything is harmonious: the sloping roofs, the gradation of tile colors, the turrets, the dovecotes, the manor houses, the church, the fountain, and so on.
Discover the two remarkable sights of Autoire
The village ofAutoire is also privileged to have two remarkable sights:
- La cascade d’Autoire: nestling at the bottom of the cirque, at the bottom of the valley. Walk up the Autoire stream to reach a majestic waterfall over 30 m high. In summer, its flow is low, but the coolness it provides is particularly welcome. In spring, the flow of the stream makes for a very impressive cascade. It’s an ideal spot forrock climbing.
- The château des Anglais: a medieval construction challenge. This den of brigands during the Hundred Years’ War merges with the cliff, as it is no more than 2 m wide.
To admire these two sights, you can also take the road up to the valley floor, to the Siran viewpoint. From here, you have a magnificent view of the waterfall. This is the starting point for the path that leads carefully on foot to the Château des Anglais.
